Dakota 2000 is a proven Native American-owned, 8a certified (Small Business Administration and Small Business Set Aside) disadvantaged company headquartered in Pierre, South Dakota, that performs general construction projects for residential, commercial and government customers, currently with emphasis on Buy Indian set-aside projects for the Indian Health Service.  Founded September 1995 as an Information Technology company, Dakota 2000 Inc has experienced solid growth and now sells millions in goods and services annually. Our General Construction branch started in earnest in 2004. This came at the request of the Indian Health Service regional headquarters in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Since that time we have built solid crews and equipment.

ROLE OVERVIEW

     The position of Construction Foreman ensures adherence to safety procedures, studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and manages staffing requirements for each phase of construction.

     The incumbent inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and construction timelines are met. 

     The Foreman oversees and works along side construction crews, performing construction tasks as needed. 
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·        Education/Experience:  Two (2) or more years of skilled level construction experience required.  Commercial construction experience desired. One (1) year in a construction leadership position a plus.

·        Technical Skills:  effectively use computer and other technology.

·        Leadership Competencies:  Lead the crew.  Effectively communicate orally and in writing, assess crew skills, form and implement crew schedules, delegate work, handle administrative duties, including completion of required documents.

·        Behavioral Competencies:  Support Dakota 2000 mission and philosophy, maintain confidentiality of all work information, demonstrate an ability to function successfully in a team environment, exhibit professional, courteous, and respectful treatment of internal and external customers, displays a positive attitude and flexibility in changing situations, participates in identifying problems and suggesting solutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.      Confers with and directs construction personnel in the execution of construction procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction.

2.      Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules.

3.      Prepares or reviews reports in progress, materials used, and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.

4.      Collaborate with Human Resources and Management in the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of construction personnel.

5.      Works along with construction crews, performing construction tasks.

6.      Functions as a dependable member of the team, interpreting and following policies and procedures with emphasis on safety, and demonstrating positive interpersonal relationship skills to promote a harmonious working environment and outstanding customer service.

7.      Performs other duties as assigned.
